Capes were an article of clothing.
Capes were generally worn by humanoids sometimes for practicality, and sometimes as a mark of status or elegance. The typical cape was a sleeveless piece of cloth draping the wearer's back and shoulder, usually connecting at the neck.
History[]
The First Doctor wore a black cape throughout his life as an exile, usually when in cold climates; (TV: An Unearthly Child, The Tenth Planet) this was continued by his successor the Second Doctor. (TV: The Tomb of the Cybermen) The outfit stolen by the Third Doctor from the hospital where he slept off his post-regenerative trauma included a black cape with red lining. (TV: Spearhead from Space) James Stevens, in Who Killed Kennedy, described it as a "black, silk-lined cape" which draped over his two-piece velvet suit. (PROSE: Who Killed Kennedy) This incarnation of the Doctor used the cape as a weapon on occasion, once using it like a fowler's net to entangle and defeat a giant fly. (TV: The Green Death) The Twelfth Doctor occasionally donned a similar outfit. (TV: Flatline)

Superheroes typically wore capes as part of their adventuring outfits. This was true of the fictional Karkus, whose costume included a short cape, (TV: The Mind Robber) but also of the Ghost. (TV: The Return of Doctor Mysterio)
Porcians normally wore full-body silver stockings and capes. (AUDIO: The Fourth Wall)

- The video game Legacy (which is not considered to be a valid source on this Wiki) introduced a Sontaran called Vade the Defiant, who was distinguished by wielding an axe and wearing a blue cape in addition to the standard Sontaran space armour.
