Cass (audio anthology)

Cass was a full cast audio anthology released on 18 January 2023 by Big Finish Productions. It was the fifth release in The Eighth Doctor: Time War audio series, which served as a prequel to The War Doctor audio series. It featured Paul McGann as the Eighth Doctor, Emma Campbell-Jones as Cass Fermazzi and Sonny McGann as Alex Campbell.

5.2 Vespertine by Lou Morgan

It's Cass's first trip in the TARDIS, and the Doctor is determined to make it one to remember. But when they arrive at a research base that shouldn't exist, built above a missing explorer's ship that should never have been found, it seems their visit's going to be memorable for all the wrong reasons.

Because deep beneath the ice, there's more than just a long-lost ship waiting for them...

5.3 Previously, Next Time by James Moran

Part One: The Doctor, Cass and Alex land to find out what's causing temporal anomalies with the TARDIS, and come across an uninhabited planet, a mysterious factory, and a weapon so dangerous, it could destroy the Universe. But things go catastrophically wrong…

Part Two: The factory has vanished along with the TARDIS, and the formerly uninhabited planet is now fully populated by people who have been here for thousands of years, people who have never heard of the Time War OR Daleks. Something very strange is going on with time itself - and it's running out, fast.

• This audio anthology was announced on 11 November 2022, including the return of Emma Campbell-Jones as Cass.^[1]
• The stories were recorded between 5-9 September 2022 at the Soundhouse and remotely.^[2]
• The cover was created by Rafe Wallbank,^[3] with the Dalek renders provided by James Johnson.^[4]

    Dalek Chief Scientist closer look.

    As with previous work, Johnson again released a closer look at the Dalek design featured on the cover, noting its identical appearance to the Big Finish website exclusive Dalek Scientist action figure with silver dome, slats and sense globes, released by Character Options in 2019. The action figure in question is itself based upon the cover art for the War Doctor audio release A Thing of Guile.
  • The syringe attachment featured on the cover bares a resemblance to the attachment used by Dalek Jast in the television story Daleks in Manhattan.
• Rakhee Thakrar was unable to return as Bliss due to scheduling difficulties.^[5]
