Marcia was born in London but left as a child and was raised in New York, USA. She attended Hofstra University, Long Island, NY, and earned degrees: BA – Sociology 1976; MA – Psychology 1978; and PD – Family Therapy 1979.

Following university, Marcia moved to Massachusetts and worked at Emerson College, AtlantiCare Medical Center, Efficacy Research Institute and The State of Massachusetts.  Worked as a clinical psychologist and family therapist, a clinical supervisor, a mental health Director and senior administrator, and a facilitator responsible for providing therapeutic services, administrative management, focus groups, the distribution of State funds for residential mental health facilities and became a quality management expert.  Marcia also had a successful clinical private practice in Salem, Massachusetts.

In 1996 Marcia Moved to Cumbria, UK and from 1999 – 2015 was an Owner and Director of two dental practices managing all administrative aspects including customer services, CQC, human resources and quality management.

In 2001 she became a Magistrate – Adult Court (crime) and Family Court Panel and was an appraiser and Training & Development Committee Member. In 20014 to 2017: Carlisle Bench Deputy Chair; and, currently, 2017: Bench Chair of North & West Cumbria Bench. Also, North West Regional Representative to the National Bench Chair Forum and National Representative to the Probation Sentencing Board. Marcia retired from the Bench in 2021. From 2010 to 2015 Marcia was a Board Member of Safety Net (agency providing mental health services and support to complex families with a history of sexual/physical abuse). Throughout her career, Marcia has given many employee awards and recognitions and raised money for numerous charities.

Marcia became a Board Member of Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery Trust in 2016 and is currently an Owner and Director of one dental practice, was High Sheriff of Cumbria in 2019 and is now a Deputy Lieutenant for the county.
