Super-American is a Superhero from The Golden Age of Comic Books, created by Jefferson Starr and published by Fiction house in Fight Comics #15-18.
It's the beginning of the United States entering World War II. In desperation, scientist Allan Bruce tries to contact Americans of the future. Luckily, he finds some from a time where everybody has superpowers. The future President sends back one man, a citizen hungry for adventure. As "Super-American," this man becomes hero to the US of the past.
The character was revived in Project Superpowers. Tropes relating to that version go there.
This comic contains examples of:
- Arch-Enemy: Tyrannus, Super-American's sole recurring foe.
- Captain Patriotic: It's in the name.
- Clothes Make the Superman: Super-American can fly due to an anti-gravity belt, and has Super-Strength and is Immune to Bullets because of an invincible fabric. This leads to him being Brought Down to Normal in one issue when the baddies take his suit.
- Flying Brick: Super-American comes from a future where everybody is this.
- Karma Houdini: Vultro flees in an airplane while Super-American isn't looking, promising to continue his plans of conquest.
- Killed Off for Real: Dr. Bruce and his son are both killed by the baddies in Fight Comics #18.
- The Mole: The secondary antagonists of Fight Comics #17 are some Nazi spies masquerading as a wealthy scientist's help, who notify an admiral of the scientist being in his area.
- A Nazi by Any Other Name: The main antagonists of the first two issues are an unnamed European dictatorship who are lead by a charismatic madman with distinctive facial hair, wear brown military uniforms, and want to conquer all of Europe. It then switches to Those Wacky Nazis.
- Protagonist Title: Literally, the hero is the name of the comic book.
- Thematic Rogues Gallery: Super-American fought military commanders out to invade the United States, as befits his codename.
