Denise Richards (Creator)

Denise Lee Richards (born February 17, 1971 in Downers Grove, Illinois) is an American actress and a former fashion model. She has appeared in numerous films, including Starship Troopers (1997), Wild Things (1998), Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999) (1999), The World Is Not Enough (1999), and Valentine (2001). Richards is also notable for her three-year marriage to actor Charlie Sheen.

  • Billing Displacement: She is billed higher in Valentine but has less screen time than many of her co-stars.
  • The Cameo: She cameos in the epilogue of Love Actually as Carla, a girl Colin brings home from America to introduce to his friend.
  • Creator Backlash: She didn't enjoy her time on The World Is Not Enough, mainly because she often felt alone on set, and critics ripped her presence in the movie to shreds. She did however defend the character in the 2020s, and appeared on the Spy Hard podcast to point out that a Bond film is fantasy at the end of the day.
  • Dawson Casting: She has played a high school student four times (Tammy and the T-Rex, Starship Troopers, Wild Things and Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999)), and she played all of those roles when she was in her twenties. In fact, she was 29 in Drop Dead Gorgeous.
  • Dyeing for Your Art: The actors playing the soldiers in Starship Troopers had to endure a one-week boot camp from Captain Dale Dye. Although Denise wasn't required to do this, as she wasn't playing a soldier, she asked to do it anyway to properly build comradery with her co-stars.
  • Enforced Method Acting: She and Neve Campbell got drunk before filming their kiss scene in Wild Things.
  • Money, Dear Boy: She admitted that she had never seen a Bond film and wasn't a fan of the franchise, so she starred in The World Is Not Enough mainly because the money allowed her to buy her parents a new house.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Given her branding as a Head-Turning Beauty, she was frequently cast as characters intended to be beautiful and sexy, though there were usually more to the characters than just Fanservice. She also posed for Playboy in 2004.
  • Older Than They Look: Not only when she played high school students, but she played the mother of the protagonist on Twisted when she was 42, but she looked more like she was in her early thirties. And today, even at the age of 53 she still looks as she's in her early 40s.
  • Real-Life Relative: She guest starred on an episode of Two and a Half Men as a former girlfriend of Charlie who now has a baby girl. The baby was played by her and Charlie Sheen's real life daughter Sami.
  • Romance on the Set: She and Charlie Sheen first met on the set of Good Advice, and started dating during filming.
  • Star-Making Role: Starship Troopers put her on the map.
  • Underage Casting: She was 28 when she played Dr. Christmas Jones in The World Is Not Enough, who is supposed to be a nuclear physicist. Having a doctorate in nuclear physics at that age is plausible (Gordon Freeman was 27), but working overseas as a project lead isn't. Tellingly, she was originally intended to be an insurance agent, but United Artists insisted she have a different professionnote  and she was first changed to a bounty hunter (hence the outfit).
  • What Could Have Been: Her role in Valentine was intended for Jennifer Love Hewitt.
