Tropes
- Action Girl: Played a lot of these, especially after her role as Sydney in Alias. Moved into comedy in the 2010s, with the exception of Peppermint and later Deadpool & Wolverine demonstrating that she could still do the Action Girl stuff.
- Creator Backlash: The Elektra movie. She only did it due to contractual obligations from Daredevil. That said, she was very pleased to return to the role years later in Deadpool & Wolverine.
- Directed by Cast Member: Directed one episode of Alias in the fourth season.
- Endearingly Dorky: Though her roles as Secret Agent Sydney Bristow and Super Anti-Hero Elektra made her famous, and in the latter's case infamous, as an Action Girl, it was her roles in movies like 13 Going on 30, Valentine's Day and Ghosts of Girlfriends Past that made her a household name.
- Also manifests this trope a lot in her social media posts.
- Indifferent Beauty: She's often ranked as one of the most beautiful women alive, but if the role calls for it, she has no problem trying to looking unattractive and gawky, most demonstrated in Pearl Harbor, in which she was dressed in homely, unflattering clothing, with a pair of overly geeky glasses, to not upstage fellow beauty and romantic lead Kate Beckinsale.
- Romance on the Set: She was married to her costar from Felicity Scott Foley, dated Michael Vartan who played her love interest on Alias, before she finally married Ben Affleck after working with him on the films Pearl Harbor and Daredevil.
- Star-Making Role: Her role as Sydney in Alias rose her to stardom.
- Statuesque Stunner: She stands 5'8" and used to work as a model, with several of her roles — particularly in Alias — showing off her beauty.
- Ironically, she'd never actually worn a two-piece swimsuit before that show.
- Timeshifted Actor: Christa B. Allen has played the younger version of two of Garner's characters, in 13 Going on 30 and Ghosts of Girlfriends Past.
- Written-In Infirmity: When she became pregnant, her character on Alias did too, with the result that Sydney's action scenes had to be cut considerably.
