Martin Henry Balsam (November 4, 1919 – February 13, 1996) was an American character actor known for his performances in such movies as 12 Angry Men, Psycho, Murder on the Orient Express (1974) and All the President's Men.
Balsam earned numerous accolades over his nearly fifty-year career, including an Academy Award and a Tony, as well as Emmy, Golden Globe, and BAFTA nominations.
He was married three times (to Pearl Somner, Joyce Van Patten, and Irene Miller) and had three children (including actress Talia Balsam with Van Patten). He died of a stroke at age 76 while vacationing in Rome.
