MeTV Toons (Creator)

I'm glad we still have funny cartoons to watch!

MeTV Toons is a spin-off of American broadcast TV network MeTV that, like its parent network, is owned by Weigel Broadcasting. But whereas MeTV proper is dedicated to classic TV sitcoms, Westerns, mystery shows, and the like, MeTV Toons is dedicated to showcasing animated television spanning a wide range of time from the 1930s all the way up to the mid-2000s, coming about as a result of the success of Toon In With Me and the dedicated Saturday Morning Cartoons block on the parent channel. Most of the channel's catalogue is licensed from Warner Bros. Discovery (including Hanna-Barbera and MGM), with a few cartoons from third party studios such as Universal, Sony Pictures Television, WildBrain, Paramountnote  and Shout! Factory.

Though the channel is not merely a re-run channel, as it also features original programming created by animation historian Jerry Beck, such as the interstitial series Cartoon College that shares trivia about the various characters and shows featured on the channel.

The channel launched with 55 affiliates across the USA on June 25, 2024 and is also available on live-TV streaming services Frndly TV and Philo. The official website can be found here!

MeTV Toons provides examples of:

  • The Artifact: The late-night "No Strings Attached" block featuring Gerry Anderson's Supermarionation shows was originally three hours long, as reflected in a clip of Captain White stating "That gives us three hours" in the opening bumper for it. The block was reduced to 90 minutes in February 2025 to make room for a new block of superhero cartoons, but the Captain White clip was still used in the opener despite the block now longer being three hours long.
  • Bowdlerize: Like with the main channel, cartoons with Blackface or other racially insensitive jokes are edited, along with odd cases of extreme violence (such as Suicide as Comedy). However, they handle cartoons with a much gentler touch than previous networks that have aired classic cartoons.
  • Made-for-TV Movie: A few have aired, such as The Jetsons Meet the Flintstones.
  • Take That!: One Cartoon College segment about Tom and Jerry post-Hanna-Barbera speaks charitably about Chuck Jones' series of shorts...but doesn't extend the same charity toward Gene Deitch's infamous series of Tom and Jerry shorts, openly calling them "Mistake #2" after "Mistake #1" (which was MGM firing Bill and Joe from Tom and Jerry in the first place) note .
