Ballerina (2025) (Film)

"They killed my father. This isn't done until they're dead."

Eve Maccaro

Ballerina (marketed as From the World of John Wick: Ballerina) is a 2025 action thriller film and a spinoff of the John Wick film series. It is directed by Len Wiseman, written by Shay Hatten, and stars Ana de Armas, Gabriel Byrne, Catalina Sandino Moreno, and Norman Reedus with appearances by franchise veterans, Anjelica Huston, Lance Reddicknote , Ian McShane, and Keanu Reeves.

Set between the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and John Wick: Chapter 4, the film follows Eve Maccaro (de Armas), a ballerina and covert assassin training under the Ruska Roma for revenge on the people who killed her family.

The film will release June 6, 2025. Not to be confused with either the 2023 South Korean film Ballerina or the 2016 animated film of the same name.

Previews: Trailer 1, Extended Look

Ballerina includes examples of the following:

  • Advertising by Association: The trailer titles the film From the World of John Wick: Ballerina.
  • Beam-O-War: A rare mundane example. In the trailer an enemy uses a flamethrower against Eve, so she sprays large amounts of water from a firehose against him. They both scream as they do this, in a very animesque fashion.
  • Combat Pragmatist: Nogi, the fight instructor in the trailer, tells her female students they need to cheat in order to survive a fight with men, who will probably be bigger and stronger.
  • Groin Attack: The trailer shows Eve attacking her trainers with this during training various times.
  • Interquel: The trailer puts the film before the events of Chapter 4, with Charon and John Wick making appearances, alive and well.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: When Eve and John meet in the trailer, this little exchange occurs:

Eve: How do I start doing what you do?
John: Looks like you already have.

  • Repurposed Pop Song: The trailer features a somber remix of Elton John’s “Tiny Dancer”.
  • You Killed My Father: This is Eve's exact motivation for revenge, as seen with her quote from the trailer above.
