The Girls (Flickorna) is a 1968 Swedish dramedy film directed by Mai Zetterling.
Liz (Bibi Andersson), Marianne (Harriet Andersson) and Gunilla (Gunnel Lindblom) are three theatre actresses who star in a production of Lysistrata. The play's themes echo their frustration with their husbands.
Tropes:
- Dance Party Ending: The film ends with Liz declaring her intention to divorce her husband, which is received with cheers from the crowd present, followed by everyone dancing to a groovy tune.
- The Glasses Gotta Go: Four chauvinistic blokes loudly comment on the three protagonists' looks when they walk into a restaurant, with one saying Gunilla would look good if she took her glasses off.
- Kinky Spanking: An Imagine Spot from Gunilla ends with her husband putting her over his knees and spanking her in front of an audience who claps, with her looking rather pleased.
- Pie in the Face: While some Produce Pelting is occurring at a movie theater, Marianne gets a little too riled up and pies the woman sitting in front of her in the face.
- Produce Pelting: The three protagonists are at a movie theater and watch what appears to be a news reel showing images of several infamous leaders such as Hitler, Stalin and Mussolini. The girls loudly boo and start throwing eggs and pies at the screen.
