The Bear and the Travelers is one of Aesop's Fables. Two friends walk together in a country, then suddenly a bear attacks them. One of them climbs a tree to save himself, while the other pretends to be dead. The bear sniffs the second traveler over, then leaves. The first climbs down the tree and jokingly asks the second what the bear said to him. The second answers with "never trust one who deserts you in need".
