Funny Contact Name (trope)

When "Motherfucker" is calling you, you better answer him.

Deadpool: No, seriously. Who is this? I have you saved as "Fat Betsy, don't pick up." Not sure why I picked up.

How have you saved my number in your phone contacts? ~

Saving the name of that stupid friend, your ex, or your annoying sibling by their real name in your phone is a bit boring. Also, they don't deserve to be referred to by their names. They need to prove themselves to be worthy first. So what do you do? You save their numbers with a witty or funny name.

This is mostly Played for Laughs, but there are times when someone saves the person harassing them with "don't reply" or "that freak" when blocking them isn't enough. Sometimes, if the characters are super close, they can save each other as "my sugarplum" and "honey butter biscuit." However, characters saving their significant others and friends by normal nicknames like "honey," "bae ❤," "hubby," "pookie," etc. is NOT noteworthy. It has to be funny, weird, extra cheesy/affectionate, or way too long it's ridiculous.

Hilarity ensues when the other person discovers you saved them as "Gigachad wannabe 69" and they get extremely pissed off and tell you to change it. On the other hand, a Friendship Moment might happen if they find out you saved their name as "my dearest BFF 💞💖." This can serve to establish the closeness of your friends in the work, as the closer you are, the sweeter the contact name will be, and the more distant you are, the drier it will be. However, this isn't always an accurate measurement of adoration.

God help you if that villain who has a crush on you, saves you as "my sunshine" on his phone. Block them. The Nicknamer would have a field day and get creative with the names, while the Loving Bully would search for the most deranged name to save your number as.

Note: Examples have to tell us the story behind the name or the relationship between the characters that resulted in the name, otherwise just stating "X saved Y as sex on legs" without further elaboration doesn't count as an example.

Closely related to Insult of Endearment.
