Vampiric Werewolf - TV Tropes

"A hybrid would be deadlier than any werewolf or vampire. Nature would not stand for such an imbalance of power."

• In Dance in the Vampire Bund, a vampire's bite is normally lethal for werewolves, making hybrids exceedingly rare. The handful of werewolves who do survive being bitten become known as "Fenrir", exceptionally strong werewolves with the agelessness of vampires and none of the downsides. Akira becomes one such werewolf after he makes Mina drink his blood to save her life.
• Falsely believed to exist in Hellsing by fans due to translation issues. Several members of the neo-Nazi "Millennium" faction in the story are referred to as "werewolves" even though they are also vampires or even stranger entities. However, "werewolf" here is being used to refer to "Operation Werewolf", an alleged Third Reich plan for a resistance movement after the end of the war against the Allied occupation forces. (In real life, there continues to be debate about whether this really existed, although most historians take a negative view).
• The Osamu Tezuka manga and television series Vampires does a unique approach where vampires in the series shape-shift into different animals, including werewolves for the protagonist Toppei Tachibana and his younger brother Chippei Tachibana.

• Batman: Batman foe The Monk (a.k.a. The Mad Monk) is a supernatural entity who shows signs of being both a vampire and a werewolf.
• Rogue Sun: Issue #2's Villain of the Week is Billy Bludmoon, who comes from a clan of vampire-werewolf hybrids.
• Werewolf by Night: Nina Price Jack Russell's niece, and a werewolf like him. While attempting to cure herself of her werewolf curse, Nina accidentally caught the attention of a vampire who tried to turn her into one of his own. Instead, he unintentionally altered the curse so that Nina would turn into a vampire by night. The only exceptions are the nights of the full moon, where she instead transforms into a white wolf.
• The French comic Zombillénium (about an amusement park staffed by monsters) has said staff inadvertently create one when two park managers (a vampire and a werewolf) each need an extra vampire/werewolf, and keep biting the new hire (the main character, a freshly-killed young man) to get the creature they need. The result is instead a Big Red Devil, who ends up becoming the park's star attraction.

• My Deepest, Darkest Secret: Like in the canon material, Solon is one, being a hybrid born between a vampire and werewolf in a forbidden romance. Because he grew up as an orphan (because his parents were killed when he was barely a year old), he was unaware of his werewolf heritage (only his vampire half as he grew up with 6 vampire brothers) until he partially transformed on a full moon at the age of 17 and spent the first half of the story debating on telling his pure vampire brothers (who loathe werewolves) about his werewolf half.

• In Fright Night (1985), one of the forms that Evil Ed is able to take after being transformed into a vampire by Jerry Dandrige is a wolf (in which state he is seemingly dispatched by Peter Vincent), while the 1989 sequel features an even more straightforward example of this trope in Louie, who can transform into a bipedal hybrid vampire-wolf form at will.
• Underworld: The Hybrids are created from a combination of vampire and Lycan strain virus due to sharing their unique heritage from the original immortal. Their appereance seems to depend on what order they were turned in:
  • Underworld (2003): Michael Corvin is the first one seen in the series after being bitten by a Lycan and a vampire in two separate occasions. As a result, he looks like a wolf-man, although more man-like than the Lycans.
  • Underworld: Evolution: Marcus Corvinus, the Big Bad, becomes a Hybrid after unwittingly ingesting Lycan's blood, though he looks more like a Chiroptean monster rather than anything vaguely resembling a wolf.
  • Underworld: Awakening: Eve, Michael and Selene's daughter who's born hybrid. She looks even more human than her father Michael, as her Vampire and Inmortal heritage (both races had human features) seems to take priority in her physical appereance than her Lycan's.

• Anita Blake: Common vampires and werewolves can't infect each other, although there are other possible combinations: for example, weretiger necromancers and faerie vampires do exist. However, the Mother of All Darkness, a legendary figure in the vampiric lore, is both a vampire and a were-smilodon.
• Bram Stoker himself had turning into a wolf as just one of Dracula's many powers in the original Dracula, and many of the early theatrical plays (as well as Bram Stoker's Dracula) extrapolated on this by having Dracula be able to transform into a werewolf on top of being a vampire.
• The Big Bad of the Dutch book series De Griezelbus, P. Onnoval, starts out as a werewolf. After he's shot with a Silver Bullet, he comes back to unlife as a vampire. After being killed again, he becomes a ghost who can turn into either of his previous forms at will.
• Rowley Jefferson's Awesome Friendly Adventure: Christoph is a young attractive vampire who was later bitten by a werewolf. Initially, his transformation just makes him even more alluring, especially to Shae'Vana (much to Roland's chagrin), but the second time it happens, his howling just gets on everyone's nerves.
• The Silmarillion: Sauron, despite officially being a Maia, is a shapeshifter who takes the form of both a vampire and a werewolf — which, in the world of Middle-earth, are evil spirits who just take the forms of really big bats and wolves — at separate points in the story.
• Dom Afonso/Lobo in the Brazilian book series Vampiros do Rio Douro is a vampire/werewolf due to his unique gift granted by the Devil. He is a vampire just like his brothers but turns into a wolf during full moon nights.

• La Luna Sangre: Malia Rodriguez is the hybrid of the most powerful vampire and the chosen werewolf respectively, even being the one will end the reign of the vampire with the cursed ink. When she transforms with her powers at it's fullest, it's into a red-caped hybrid combination of a werewolf and vampire.
• The Vampire Diaries:
  • Klaus Mikaelson is the first vampire/werewolf hybrid in existence. For a time, his goal was to create other vampire/werewolf hybrids like himself as he felt like an outcast in his own family.
  • Legacies: Klaus and Hayley's daughter Hope is not only a vampire/werewolf hybrid but has also inherited magic from her grandmother.
• In the What We Do in the Shadows (2019) episode "Gail", the titular character starts out as a regular werewolf, but at the end of the episode, Nandor attempts to turn her into a vampire in a last-ditch attempt at saving her from death. It works, against all odds, and when she tries to fly away she transforms into some sort of half-wolf half-bat creature, indicating her lycanthropy and vampirism are present in equal measure.

• Dungeons & Dragons: "Werewolf" and "Vampire" are both templates that can be added to a humanoid, which means that in some editions it was theoretically possible to create a hybrid of the two (since the Vampire template changed the creature's type to undead, it meant that any such creatures would have to start as werewolves and then become vampires after). The term "Werepyre" was used by some fans for such a creature but it was never official and existed only in homebrew.
• The World of Darkness:
  • The system usually forbids mixing templates, and in Werewolf: The Apocalypse, werewolves who are Embraced by vampires usually just die. The unluckiest ones become Abominations, Tortured Monsters who have most of the powers of both creatures but are at constant risk of falling to the Wyrm.
  • Vampire: The Masquerade: The Gangrel clan of vampires have some werewolf-like traits.

• Several Artix Entertainment games feature such creatures, hybrids between Werewolves and Vampires with the powers of both. For instance, in AdventureQuest Worlds, one Werepyre named Wolfwing serves as the Arc Villain with his Evil Plan to convert everyone into the same species as him so he won't be lonely. There are also the even rarer Dracopyres, a mix of Vampire, Werewolf, and Dragon; the first one, Nightbane, was a Werepyre who drank the blood of a thousand Dragons.
• Paleblood, AKA "The Beastly Scourge" from Bloodborne is an illness that mimics both vampirism (people with the disease can drink blood to get high and heal themselves) and lycanthropy (infectees slowly mutate into dog/human hybrids). It's neither one nor the other, but the method by which the Old Ones are attempting to reproduce, using humans to gestate their child. Eldritch features, such as blood the color of moonlight (hence the name), decay into a malformed skeleton without actually dying at any point in the process, Involuntary Shapeshifting when blood-starved, gigantism, and even stranger mutations appear once the illness progresses to its later stages.

• DARK MOON: THE BLOOD ALTAR reveals that Solon is a vampire-werewolf hybrid. How he became that way is unknown, and he goes to extreme lengths to hide it from everyone.
• The Handbook of Heroes: Thanks to a Patreon poll ending in a 50/50 split, the villain Ms. Gestalt is a half vampire and half werewolf. She's considered an abomination, or as BBEG puts it, "a shitty backstory".
• In one strip of Swords, a warrior is bitten by a swordpire, cut by a weresword^note , and had her guts devoured by zombies, in rapid succession on her way to a date. The final panel shows her as a three-way hybrid of vampire, weresword, and zombie.

• Ask That Guy with the Glasses: One question that was asked was "What would happen if I got bit by a werewolf, a zombie, and a vampire at the same time?" That Guy's answer to the person is that they would become a werezombiepire and going into detail about how they would have the traits of all three monsters while being unkillable. The only thing that could kill a werezombiepire is a silver bullet attached to a crucifix while being shot in a George A. Romero movie (because nobody killed the zombies better than George A. Romero).

• The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo: Most of the visible ghosts take Hybrid Monster to a whole new level, which includes, yes, the ghost of a vampire who's also a zombie. And a witch.
• The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy: Irwin is shown in two separate episodes to have monster parents. His mother is a mummy and his grandfather is Dracula, making his dad half vampire and himself one-quarter vampire. It's not until the TV movie Underfist that his mummy/vampire lineage starts to surface, resulting in powers from both sides of his family.
• MAD: One skit parodying The Twilight Saga has Edward and Jacob face off, only to bite each other and turn into werewolf/vampire hybrids. They then decide to ditch Bella and go hang out together.
• The Real Ghostbusters: "No One Comes to Lupusville": At the end, the citizens of Lupusville, who had been imprisoned while two clans of vampires fought over the town, are revealed to be werewolves. The Ghostbusters flee as the three groups struggle for control of the town, and Egon wonders aloud what will happen to them, since vampires and werewolves both spread by biting, as the animation shows the werewolves sprouting bat wings while the vampires grow claws and hair.
