Chapter 20: Exes and Ohs
Lincoln learns more about Moxxie's past when he finally meets Moxxie's mafioso father, who turns out to be anything but friendly.
Tropes in this chapter include:
- Adaptation Expansion: The chapter starts with Millie physically running into Chaz while her and Lincoln are out shopping, whereas the encounter was only mentioned in the original episode.
- Adaptational Karma: Towards the end of the chapter: Lincoln pulls a Mind Rape on Crimson, similar to the one he pulled on Asmodeus in "OZZIE'S". When he attempts to burn Crimson to death, he's stopped by Moxxie's intervention, not wanting Lincoln to sacrifice his innocence. The imp then spits in his dad's face before the team leave.
- Ascended Extra: Unlike in canon, Loona participates in the adventure.
- Big "NO!": Moxxie lets one out near the end of the chapter when Lincoln - whose Demonic side had taken over - comes dangerously close to killing Crimson.
- Calling the Old Man Out: Lincoln calls Crimson out for not trying to help Moxxie when the latter was sent to prison, nor trying to get back in contact with him after he got out.
- Cement Shoes: Crimson orders his men to get rid of Lincoln when they find him snooping around, and the boy finds himself tied up and gagged with ropes connected to cement blocks, where it becomes obvious they were going to drown him. He manages to escape before he runs out of air, though. Courtesy of his demonic side.
- Cool Mask: Lincoln dons a magic masquerade mask he got from Stolas, which allows him to disguise himself as an imp. He loses it halfway through the chapter, however, following an attempted drowning.
- Cover Innocent Eyes and Ears: When Crimson activates the wall dildos during his private conversation with Moxxie, this exchange is said on the other side of the door.
Millie: Lincoln, ya didn't see anythin'! Just look at the darkness of mah palms!
- Millie also covers Lincoln's ears early on when Chaz openly discusses his sex life.
- Cuteness Overload: Millie gives a massive Squee when she sees Lincoln's imp disguise.
- Kill It with Fire: Lincoln, while in his demonic state, attempts to burn Crimson alive. Moxxie stops him before the boy can go through with it.
- Leaning on the Fourth Wall: It's pointed out that Crimson sounds almost exactly like Moxxie, a nod to the fact that they're both voiced by Richard Steven Horvitz.
- Mind Rape: Lincoln inflicts this on Crimson towards the end of the chapter: He traps the crime boss in an illusion of the lake of he uses to drown his victims, where the bastard is pulled to the depths by the corpses of his victims, including Moxxie's mother, before being attacked by the projection of Lincoln's demonic form.
- No-Sell: A bit downplayed. Crimson is used to exerting control over Moxxie through threats and intimidation since the latter was a child, so he figured that employing the same tactic on Lincoln would work. However, the mob boss is actually surprised by how not only is Lincoln not as easy to cow into submission as Moxxie, but the boy's inner demon has him give Crimson a threatening glare of his own.
- Papa Wolf: Moxxie was already being brave by finally standing up to his abusive father, but the second Crimson mentions that he had his goons take Lincoln away, Moxxie goes ballistic. Even going as far to splash hot coffee in his dad's face. Furthermore, when Lincoln goes full demon and tries to outright murder Crimson, Moxxie stops him; the assassin wants his monster of a father dead as much as anyone else, but not at the expense of Lincoln's innocence.
- Spiteful Spit: Moxxie hawks a loogie at his unresponsive father before leaving.
- Unusually Uninteresting Sight: While justified, as he was too frustrated to process it, Crimson didn't seem to care that Lincoln wasn't only a human, but also one with the ability to use magic.
- Would Hurt a Child: Crimson is perfectly willing to assault Lincoln, and his goons are all too willing to drown the boy. One of the goons says he's Just Following Orders, while his partner makes it explicitly clear he's always wanted to murder a child.
