The Days and Nights of Molly Dodd was a dramedy series that ran from 1987 through 1991, starring Blair Brown as a single woman living in New York City, and follows all aspects of her life — real and (in some cases) fantasy. It first aired on NBC, and after its first year moved over to the Lifetime cable channel. The show generally opened with Molly engaging in a day-to-day activity, with an audio overlay of her mother describing some aspect of Molly's personality and/or history that will come into play during the current episode.
This show provides examples of:
- Almighty Janitor: Davey, the elevator operator (and later doorman) of Molly's building. He is an expert at everything. In glimpses of his private life he is shown to have important connections, and other indications that he is more than he seems.
- Amicable Exes: Molly is still friendly with her ex-husband Fred, and their interactions remain quite flirty.
- Big Applesauce: The show was shot in New York, and often made use of outdoor locations. The jazzy soundtrack also gave it a distinctly NYC feel.
- Idiosyncratic Episode Naming: All episodes are in form of a phrase that starts with "Here" or "Here's", such as "Here's Why Cosmetics Should Come in Unbreakable Bottles", "Here's a High Dive into a Shallow Pool", or "Here Comes That Cold Wind Off the River."
