Chef Cookie serving up some beatdowns.
Panic Restaurant is a 1992 NES Platform Game by Taito.
You play as Chef Cookie, owner of the famous Eaten Restaurant. One day as he heading in, he finds out his restaurant has been taken over by the mysterious and evil chef Ohdove. Ohdove has now littered the restaurant with anthropomorphic food running amok. Cookie has to brave six stages and put a stop to Ohdove and get his restaurant back.
The game plays like a standard platformer as Cookie runs and jumps. He defends himself with his frying pan, but can acquire powerups like forks, throwable plates, and a spoon he can swing to attack enemies. Beating the enemies awards him with coins, which Cookie can play with in the slot machine bonus game at the end of every level.
Also of note: The Japanese version of the game is slightly different from the International Versions. While the game is mostly the same, it stars a completely different protagonist from Cookie: a younger kid-like chef protagonist who uses his head to attack enemies instead.
This restaurant contains examples of:
- 1-Up: Extra lives can be found in form of chef's hat pickups.
- All Your Base Are Belong to Us: Ohdove has taken Cookie's restaurant for his own.
- American Kirby Is Hardcore: European box art of the game is fairly neutral while American box art depicts an angry chef chasing after chicken.
- Anthropomorphic Food: Majority of regular enemies, plus level 4 boss. Gangs of rowdy food characters run amok in the stages and attack Cookie. Some have faces and eyes, some don't.
- Big Bad: Ohdove, an evil chef who took over the Eaten Restaurant.
- Bottomless Pits: A few levels include screens where falling offscreen kills you.
- Collision Damage: The player gets damaged upon contact with the enemy.
- Conspicuous Electric Obstacle: In level 2, all the chandeliers are broken and frequently emit electric bolts.
- Cumulonemesis: The only enemy that is not food or a kitchen appliance is a cloud that floats and shoots lighting bolts. They're present in the fourth level.
- Dastardly Whiplash: Ohdove plays this up with his handlebar mustache, gangly appearance, and dark-purple skin.
- Down the Drain: Final level takes place in the sewers.
- Every 10,000 Points: Extra life is awarded for reaching 20000 points.
- Flame Spewer Obstacle: Third level has stoves that emit jets of flame.
- Hearts Are Health: Health is indicated by amount of hearts.

- Invincibility Power-Up: There's a wok powerup that temporarily makes the player invincible and destroys regular enemies.
- Knockback: Chef Cookie gets knocked back upon hit.
- Malevolent Architecture: Later levels include rooms that one would not place in a real restaurant. Like forks and knives as spikes, a freezer, and a sewer.
- Raising the Steaks: Walking chickens are also part of the enemy lineup.
- Scoring Points: The game has a score counter.
- Slippy-Slidey Ice World: Fifth level takes place inside of a freezer.
- Spikes of Doom: Spikes take a form of knives or icicles.
