Due to returning characters and storylines from the original anime and many of its spinoffs (including Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story), unmarked spoilers for other works in the franchise are present. You have been warned.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica Magia Exedra (Video Game)

Enter the memories of Magical Girls and restore light to the Lighthouse.Note

Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Magia Exedra, also known simply as Magia Exedra, is an upcoming Mobile Phone Game in the Puella Magi Madoka Magica franchise with 3D graphics slated for a 27 March, 2025 release on iOS, Android and Steam. Notably, unlike its predecessors, it will be released worldwide simultaneously. The game is developed by f4samurai (Magia Record and Twisted-Wonderland) and Pokelabo (SINoALICE and Assault Lily: Last Bullet), with the latter being the primary managing developer, and Aniplex publishing the game as they have done for Magia Record.

The game takes place in a world known as The Lighthouse, where memories of Magical Girls are gathered to illuminate the dark. One day, a girl named Name who calls herself a "former magical girl who has lost everything" finds herself within The Lighthouse. At the request of a green Incubator named A-Q, the girl helps him to gather the memories of Magical Girls by entering Memory Windows, reliving key moments of their lives and collecting Memory Lights, in the hopes that she will recover her own in the process.

Gameplay is shown to be a mix of area exploration and turn-based battle, in which up to 5 magical girls are deployed in a team. During exploration, players control one character as she moves around the area finding the exit while battling mobs and picking up items. During boss battles, the team has to deplete the boss's Break Gauge before they can reduce its HP. When a character does enough damage and fills up her SP Gauge, she can unleash her Kioku.

During Magia Day 2024, it has been announced that Magia Record's "Magia Report" will get a new lease of life as the advertising manga for Magia Exedra, this time featuring Name and A-Q replacing Madoka-senpai and Iroha-chan as the protagonists. Renamed to "Ready, Set, Exedra"Note with PAPA returning as the mangaka, the series launched in September 2024 in Japanese and one month later in English.

The teaser trailer can be found in Japanese and in English, while the promotion trailer can be found in Japanese with English subtitles.

Now go. Unveil the Tropes of these Magical Girls:

  • Ambiguous Situation: What and where is The Lighthouse? Why is the girl in the trailer a "former magical girl"? And who is the green A-Q and why is he colored differently compared to the regular Kyubey?
  • Amnesiac Hero: The protagonist of the game, Namae/Name, wakes up in The Lighthouse with no memories whatsoever, except for the fact that she used to be a magical girl.
  • Dub Name Change: Namae is called "Name" in the English version, since "namae" is Japanese for "name".
  • Expy: The first official livestream noted that the Portraits obtained through gameplay among others work similarly to the Memoria in Magia Record.
  • Featureless Protagonist: Name has no distinguishing features in her appearance, presumably because her memory loss included what she looked like in the first place.
  • Limit Break: Each playable character has one called a Kioku ("Memory" in Japanese). The SP meter that lets them use theirs fills up when they attack enough times.
  • Old Save Bonus: Players of Magia Record JP can find a transfer code in the archive version of said game when it ends on July 31 2024 that they can use in Magia Exedra for certain bonuses such as a special Portrait and the ability to bring over some archival material from Record to Exedra.
  • Palette Swap: Instead of the pink and white Kyubey we all love and hate, A-Q is green and white and lacks the rings in his tassels.
