Super Bikes - TV Tropes
- ️Tue Dec 24 2024
Super Bikes is an arcade motorbike racing series by Raw Thrills. The series began in 2006 as a spin-off of the Fast & Furious arcade racing games. Two sequels were made in 2010 and 2019, with the Fast & Furious license being dropped and turning Super Bikes into a standalone series.
The core gameplay is similar to the Fast & Furious games, with the main difference is that instead of using a steering wheel, the main controller is shaped like a bike, with the steering done by the player tilting the "bike" to the left and right, and the acceleration being done with the handle instead of a pedal.
Games in the series:
- The Fast and the Furious: Super Bikes (2006)
- Super Bikes 2 (2010)
- Super Bikes 3 (2019)
This game series provides examples of:
- Adapted Out: Despite including every other track in the original Super Bikes, Baja was removed in the second game in favor of half of the two-parter Space Race track. The track returned in The Fast and the Furious: Super Cars, which added every single track from the first Super Bikes game.
- Africa Is a Country: One track in 2 is simply named as "Africa" despite other tracks in the game being named after more specific locations (countries, cities, or regions). Super Bikes 3 has an African track, but averts this by calling the track "Tanzania".
- Bigfoot, Sasquatch, and Yeti: Various Yetis appear in the background of the third game's Nepal track, one of which smashes the ground to reveal a new part of the race track.
- Call-Back: One billboard in 3's Hollywood track has the Super Bikes 2 logo on it.
- Car Fu: You can knock out other CPU bikers in Super Bikes 2.
- Cool Bike: After all, this is a bike racing series where you can ride sports bikes or choppers and customize or upgrade them.
- Early-Installment Weirdness: The first game is the only game with the Fast & Furious license. It's also the only game where players choose their transmission mode and also lacks any neutral airtime stunts when a Flip, Helicopter, or Barrel Roll isn't being performed.
- Guest Fighter: The second game features the Terminator bike and TRON Light-cycle among its bikes. Not only that, the T-800 and a Tron character are among the riders.
- Password Save: Like other Raw Thrills racing games, the first two games allow for saving progress (bike upgrades, high scores, etc.) with a numerical password.
- Remixed Level: The "Expert" tracks in 3 are their respective Easy tracks but with a visual gimmick changed.
- Nepal increases the amount of Yetis and adds phoenixes.
- Tanzania replaces the safari animals with dinosaurs.
- Hollywood replaces the attack helicopters with UFOs.
- Hong Kong adds flying cars and neon dragons.
- The Theme Park Version: The Florida track has Kennedy Space Center, the Everglades, Expies of various theme parks around Orlando such as Walt Disney World and Gatorland, and Daytona Beach and Speedway, all in one race track.
- Toros y Flamenco: Most of the second game's Spain track is set in Barcelona, but the Running of the Bulls festival is also being held there.
- Viva Las Vegas!: In the second game's Las Vegas track, the race starts in an empty desert before the racers "crash" into a wall and reveal the city's famous nightlife such as the Strip and Fremont Street.
