13 Cards (Web Animation)

One apartment. Eight personalities. Zero personal space.note

13 Cards (or 13 Карт) is a Russian animated cartoon web series created by Fedor Comix and animated by Phoenix Productions that premiered on April 13th, 2024 . It's a show that was originally inspired by Fedor Comix's earlier work. Namely the Webcomics Fedor x9 & ''Land of Kings".

The story is about a young college student named Fedor who receives a set of magical playing cards from a fortune teller. These cards can create eight copies of him that help him with whatever he asks them to do. From there, Hilarity Ensues.

The series playlist can be found here in Russian via this link while an English dub is currently in the works.

13 Cards contains examples of: ——

  • Ambiguously Gay: Romeo is quite effeminate in terms of fashion sense & overall behavior. Though it is unclear if he is gay.
  • Author Avatar: Fedor himself, much like in Fedor x9.
  • Bound and Gagged:
    • During his Image Song, Waru has Felix, Brolly, and Romeo tied up, gagged, and floating on a raft full of garbage down the river. Gabriel is also on the raft, but he isn't bound and gagged.
    • Waru himself ends up tied up and gagged with duct tape by the other clones at the end of Episode 3 to prevent him from messing up the soup again.
  • Cute and Psycho: Felix can be incredibly sweet and optimistic most of the time. However, he also has a short temper and some Axe-Crazy tendencies, especially cuz of Waru.
  • Denser and Wackier: Though not without its more serious moments, 13 Cards is a lot lighter and more comedic in tone than Fedor x9 & Land of Kings. It is even lampshaded in Kuromaku's Image Song.
  • Dub Name Change: In the original Russian version, Brolly was originally named Zontik, while Spade's name was originally Pik.
  • Exotic Eye Designs: The clones have white pupils in the shape of their corresponding card suite, which is visible from time to time. This is especially noticeable with Brolly having club-shaped pupils, Felix & Romeo having heart-shaped pupils, Spade having spade-shaped pupils, and Gabriel having diamond-shaped pupils.
  • Expository Theme Tune: The intro explains the main premise of the show, namely, about Fedor getting magic playing cards from a fortune teller and using said cards to summon eight clones of him with different personalities.

    Magic stack of old cards
    From the fortune teller
Eight clones summoned to this world
    And every one of them
A different look, a different hook
A different outlook on what's good...

  • Hair-Trigger Temper:
    • Spade is quick to anger, whether it is him getting into fights or whipping out his knife when things don't go his way, as shown when Fedor was reviewing Spade's & Brolly's comic.
    • Felix is also quick to anger, especially in regards to Waru's antics.
  • Image Song: Labeled as Meme Songs, each clone has their own image song that delves into their personalities.
  • Literal Split Personality: Essentially the main premise of the show, Fedor ends up summoning eight clones from the magic playing cards he got from the fortune teller, all of which have distinct personalities.
  • Only Sane Man:
    • Fedor himself, as he has to be the one to put up with the antics of his eight clones.
    • Among the eight clones, Kuromaku is the level-headed voice of reason, as he is usually the one to call out any sort of foolishness the other clones end up doing.
  • Playing Card Motifs: Given how the clones were summoned from playing cards, which is reflected in the shape of their pupils. To be more specific, Brolly & Kuromaku represent the Club Suite, Felix & Romeo represent the Heart Suite, Waru & Spade represent the, Spade Suite, & Dante & Gabriel represent the Diamond Suite.
