HOUSTON – University of Houston sophomore guard Quentin Grimes posted a career-high 32 points and added nine rebounds with five assists to lead the Cougars to a come-from-behind 97-89 win over Rice inside Tudor Fieldhouse on Tuesday night.

Competing in his first season with the Cougars, Grimes connected on 11-of-17 shots from the field , including 4-of-6 from the 3-point line. With Houston trailing by nine late in the second half, The Woodlands, Texas, native led a 21-1 run during a 5-minute stretch.

Grimes buried all four of his 3-pointers in the game, scoring 14 of the team's 21 points in that rally.

In a hard-fought game all night, Houston rallied from a 15-point second-half deficit to score 65 points in the final 20 minutes and collect their sixth straight win against the Owls. It was the Cougars' most points in a half since scoring 69 in the opening 20 minutes in a 131-62 win over Florida Tech on Nov. 22, 2005, and the second-most points allowed by Rice in school history.

The Cougars (2-1) outrebounded the Owls 47-34 with 16 offensive rebounds, leading to 23 second-chance points.

Rice (4-2) scored the first eight points of the game and used a 13-0 run midway through the first half to build a 34-19 advantage on Robert Martin's 3-pointer with 6:00 left in the opening half.

The Cougars closed the gap to 39-32 at the half and opened the final period on a 13-5 run to take a 45-44 lead. The two teams went back and forth from there before Rice scored five unanswered points to take a 77-68 lead following Chris Mullins' jumper with just under six minutes left in the game.

That would be the last field goal the Cougars would allow over the next five minutes as Grimes led the Houston rally. With his total, Grimes became the 60th Cougar in school history to score 30 points in a game.

Grimes led five Cougars in double-digit points. Sophomore guard Nate Hinton finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds for the second double-double of his career. Junior guard DeJon Jarreau totaled 15 points, thanks to a 6-of-7 effort from the free throw line, while freshman guard Marcus Sasser posted 15 points, thanks to 5-of-8 shooting from the arc.

Redshirt freshman guard Caleb Mills added 12 points with four rebounds and a pair of assists in the win. Junior guard Fabian White Jr. led all players with 12 rebounds, including three offensive boards.

All five Rice starters scored in double digits with Martin's 23 points leading the way. Ako Adams and Drew Peterson posted 15 points apiece, while Mullins added 12 points. Trey Murphy III finished with 11 points, while Max Fielder's seven rebounds led the Owls in the loss.
