Connectix Corporation Announces Connectix Virtual PC - PC DOS Version

Low Cost Addition to the Connectix Virtual PC Product Line; Comes Bundled with Three Popular Electronic Arts Games

SAN MATEO, Calif. - Sept 29, 1997 - Connectix Corporation, makers of RAM Doubler and Speed Doubler, today announces the shipment of the latest addition to its emulation product line, Connectix Virtual PC - PC DOS version. Like the flagship product, Connectix Virtual PC - Windows 95 version, the product is a complete standards-based PC in software enabling Power Macintosh users to run DOS applications. With an estimated street price of U.S. $69.00, Connectix Virtual PC - PC DOS version has IBM PC DOS pre-installed and is bundled with full retail versions of popular sports games from Electronic Arts, a leading global interactive entertainment software company: Madden NFL Football (LE), PGA Tour 96 and the Need for Speed (SE).

Like the Virtual PC - Windows 95 and Windows 3.11 versions, the PC DOS version emulates standards-based components, such as Intel's Pentium MMX , Sound Blaster Pro and VESA video drivers. Users can install and run other PC operating systems including Windows (NT, 95, 3.x), IBM OS/2, and even NeXT OPENSTEP. The product includes enhanced joystick support. The Connectix Virtual PC product line combines compatibility with business applications and playable performance for games at the lowest price on the market -- making the Connectix Virutal PC product line the most compelling solution for Power Macintosh users who love their Macs but want to run PC applications.

"I have never seen a product that combines the marketing and technical achievement of Virtual PC. It is one of the most important applications created for Macintosh in the last five years," said Guy Kawasaki, Apple Fellow and Chief Evangelist.

"The Connectix Virtual PC - PC DOS version provides consumers with an affordable emulation product that will allow users to run DOS legacy applications and provide playable performance of PC DOS games not available on the Mac platform," said Chris LeTocq, principal analyst at Dataquest.

"We believe this new addition to the Connectix Virtual PC product family will expand our market share in the emulation arena, especially in the consumer market where Connectix Maintosh utility products dominate," said Gina Clark, vice president and general manager of software at Connectix Corporation.

The Connectix Virtual PC - PC DOS version is recommended for Power Macintosh computers running at 100MHz or faster with 20 MB of physical RAM and requires Mac OS 7.5.5 or later. For games, the minimum requirements are 180 MHz or faster processor with 24MB of RAM. Like all Connectix products, the Connectix Virtual PC - PC DOS version is available through catalog and retail outlets nationwide, or by contacting Connectix directly at (800) 950-5880 or www.connectix.com. The Connectix Virtual PC - PC DOS version is also available for corporate licensing and special pricing for the education market.
