In reading generalised statements, we should remember that no religion is static. Here, therefore, we consider the influence of time and how religion is a dynamic process, involving negotiated relationships between the individual, the broad, and evolving tradition, and the various groups and sub-groups that constitute and enhance that tradition.
The central theme here is "authority" its role in ensuring the continuity of a tradition and its ability to successfully adapt to changing circumstances.
