The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders
Museum Information Page
Within a circle the Cypher and Coronet of Princess Louise. To the left a boar's head, the crest of the Argylls, and to the right a cat, the badge of the Sutherlands. All within a wreath of thistles.
This Regiment has been based at Stirling Castle for more than a hundred years. In 1988 the museum was re-established in its current site, within the King's Old Building and tells the story of the Regiment from the raising of the 91st Argyllshire Highlanders at Stirling in 1794, up to today.
The museum gives an insight into two centuries of military history and shows how this Highland Regiment played its part in shaping of Scotland's military history. The museum is divided into sections which include the Crimea where the 93rd formed the "Thin Red Line", the Indian Mutiny, the Boer War, and the First and Second World Wars. Other exhibits include recent events such as Korea, Suez, Aden, Malaya and the Bicentenary of the Regiment.
