The
National Political Committee (NPC) meeting of the Party of Communist
Refoundation (PRC) that took place on January 21-22, 2006 ended with
the already expected reaffirmation of the political perspective of
the Union government effectuated by Fausto Bertinotti and the
majority of the PRC: a perspective of subordination of the party to
big capital and to a program of the Union -already defined in the
facts- characterized by the re-launching of the policy of social
sacrifices and the neo-Atlantic (pro-US) foreign policy, as a
function of the re-launching of Italian capitalism.
The
praiseworthy judgement emitted by Bertinotti (and Cremaschi) on the
collective bargaining agreement of the metal mechanics is on its own
an anticipated indicator of what the role of the PRC will be in the
Union government: a role of benediction and covering up of the
commitment to block the social reactions against the anti popular
measures, and to deprive them of an autonomous point of political
reference. It is the same reason why the liberal center of the Union
wants the PRC in the government (…)
The
inalienable character of the Communist Opposition
Within
this context, the reasons of the most general battle of Progetto
Comunista are more confirmed than ever. All the positions of the
“critical” intermediate motions that are still obstinate in
saving the framework of reference of the Union, limiting themselves
to proposing “venues of negotiation” (Grassi) once again or
defending a greater “pressure of the movement” (Cannavo), have
currently lost their credibility and space almost completely. In
particular, Erre’s leadership, that is still proposing a “political
electoral agreement” with the center-left around some “key
points” (?), at the very moment in which the program of the Union
is characterized as the program of the industrialists and bankers on
all the key points, shows the extent of the impermeable character of
the leading groups of the centrist components when it comes to taking
their own lessons from experience.
Progetto
Comunista alone raises the only coherent alternative political
proposal: rupture with the center of the Union, the unity of the
workers and their representation around a common anti-capitalist
program.
The
revolutionary candidacy, product of a long struggle
The
presence of the comrade Marco Ferrando, national spokesman of
Progetto Comunista, on the party slate as candidate to the Senate is
placed in the service of this general political battle: a candidacy
that responds in a natural way to the criteria of maximum
representation and acknowledgement of the Progetto Comunista area at
the PRC Congress and its proposal for a Communist opposition to the
center-left and center-right governments.
The
impugning of ten members of Progetto’s area at the NPC which,
having claimed a Congressman for themselves and, after not being able
to obtain it, accuse Ferrando of having surrendered to Prodi’s
government, is just a sad episode that has comprehensively attracted
some journalistic speculations. It is a minority group of the AMR
Progetto Comunista, essentially marginal in Progetto's congressional
area, which, having voted for the Association’s political proposal
during its National Conference last January 6-8, has decided to
“split” due to questions related to the organization and
administration of the AMR: so, they first abandoned the Conference,
then declared themselves “public fraction of the AMR” (opening a
site of their own, parallel to the site of the Association and
announcing the publication of their own journal, “Progetto
Comunista”), and finally has acted as an organization hostile to
Progetto Comunista, even reaching the point of making insinuations
about its leaders through repeated press communiqus.
But
this distractive action, harmful to be sure and not by chance
strongly criticized by the Coordinating Committee for the
Refoundation of the Fourth International itself, does not modify even
a shred of reality or Progetto Comunista’s perspectives. Progetto
Comunista, after a long-lasting discrimination suffered at the hands
of the leadership group of the PRC, obtains through its struggle a
possible parliamentary space, “benefiting” indirectly from the
right to representation of minorities (absurdly reduced, moreover)
that Bertinotti, after the VI Congress, could no longer avoid, even
for reasons of “image”. And Progetto wins this space without any
“political give and take”, as Ferrando himself has publicly
stated, in front of Bertinotti, during the meeting of the National
Political Committee of the PRC (January 20, 2006).
In
contrast to other minorities that attempt to gain their own
institutional acknowledgement within the logic of “give and take”,
and which, in exchange for this acknowledgment, have, as their first
step, given up presenting any political motions of their own at the
NPC, Progetto Comunista has not made and will not make any commitment
that affects questions of principle. We understand the possible
achievement of a parliamentary representation as the indirect product
of an intransigent political battle of many years; this is the reason
why we, simultaneously with the candidacy, regularly presente at the
NPC our motion “Against a government with the bankers, for a
working class alternative”, as a sign of the continuity of our
principal political battle for the inalienable character of the
Communist Opposition. Once again, the facts are a measure of our
coherence.
A
campaign for the re-launching of Communist Refoundation
This
battle of ours today takes a step forward. The phase now opening up
broadens in actual fact the space for construction of Progetto
Comunista. Now, in different realities, new rank-and-file sectors of
Ernesto and Erre, and even those coming from Bertinottism, are
attracted to us as a reference for organization and perspectives. In
this way, sectors of the political and social vanguard that are not
attracted at all towards a new government of compromise, are paying
attention to our reasoning. And these spaces will get even broader
still as the probable government of the Union gets closer. In this
framework, the call “For the defense and re-launching of a class
struggle opposition, for the re-launching of Communist refoundation”,
already carried forward by the AMR, and much more valid today, will
be presented within the next few weeks in all the cities and
provincial regions. All the comrades and groups of comrades willing
to join this campaign or simply wishing to receive a copy of our call
in order to get to know or to deepen their knowledge of the reasons
behind Progetto Comunista, can make contact with our organization and
coordinate initiatives or meetings. As for ourselves, we will be
sparing no efforts.
