GG.COM Course Guides
ayr
Ayr Recognised as the premier racecourse in Scotland, Ayr plays host to 25 Flat and National Hunt fixtures. Its main highlights are the Scottish Grand National held in April and the Western Meeting on the Flat in September that features the Ayr Gold Cup. Approximately one and a half miles in circumference, the course suits long-striding gallopers and provides a searching test of stamina in rain-softened conditions.
Effect of the Draw
High numbers dominated the Ayr Gold Cup and the consolation Silver Cup in the late 1990s, but not in the last couple of years. But the ground has been softer lately and you'd still want to be backing high numbers the next time the going is fast. On the round course, low numbers are best.
Concentrate on: the top six stalls in the Ayr Gold and Silver Cups if the ground is good to firm or faster, Cross out: stall 12 and above over 7f and a mile.
