Sarazen Student Union Naming Opportunities

Maloney Great Room: 

(This room honors George Maloney ’54 for his naming gift in honor of Gene and Mary Sarazen)

Large Meeting Rooms (2 @ $50,000 each, 1 @ $75,000)

The Siena community and affiliated groups can meet in any one of a number of meeting rooms in the new Sarazen Student Union. With different seating capacities and room configurations (classroom style, boardroom style, etc.) available, accommodating any size group will be a breeze.

McMahon Atrium

(a gift from John A. McMahon '71)

This represents both the exterior and interior architectural signature of the Sarazen Student Union. The glass atrium will rise two stories and provide warm natural lighting for this, the main pass-through and gathering area of the building. In addition, Gene Sarazen’s memorabilia will be displayed in this lobby.

Bookstore

(A gift from Follett College Stores Corporation)

Now buying books, sweatshirts, and other Siena paraphernalia will be easier and more convenient than ever in the campus bookstore’s new expanded, central location in the Sarazen Student Union.

Pepsi Café:

Marketplace:

Student clubs and outside vendors will display their merchandise in the Student Union’s very own "Marketplace." From clothing and accessories, CDs, class rings, graduate prep course services, to holiday specialty items, etc., this area will be the place to shop without leaving campus.

Sarazen Scholars' Lounge

(gifts from Sarazen Scholarship recipients ) Opportunities Remain

Wired for laptops, this lounge will be used by student clubs and organizations for informal meetings, discussions and for overflow workspace. Student groups will always find a place to get things done in this comfortable and inviting location.

WVCR

WVCR 88.3 "The Saint," the Capitol Region's #1 Hip Hop and R & B radio station will heat up the airwaves from the Sarazen Student Union. Serving the Capital Region and the North Country with 25,000 watts of commercial-free power 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The complete headquarters of WVCR will be located in the Sarazen Student Union including:

Post Office ($25,000)

The Sarazen Student Union will have a full service satellite office of the U.S. Postal Service. Students will enjoy this new central location of their mailboxes to receive campus mail as well as care packages from home.

Campus Ministry Reflection Room

Campus Ministry is the backbone of Siena’s Franciscan tradition and has always been a large part of the Siena student’s life. The reflection room in the Sarazen Student Union will offer students the opportunity to meditate, reflect and pray in a quiet place amongst the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Commuter Lounge

The commuter’s official "home away from home" will have all the comforts of home, if not more. The lounge will include a refrigerator, television, pool table, soft furniture, microwave, computers and subscriptions to popular magazines and newspapers.

Nothing cures a case of nostalgia like perusing your old yearbook. All the effort that goes into filling those books with your memories takes place in this workroom.

Student Senate

The Student Senate serves as the voice of the student body to faculty, staff and the administration. This student-elected judicial body presents and interprets the attitudes, opinions and rights of the students to the administration.

Student Events Board Workroom and Office ($20,000)

Winter Weekend, Siena Fest, headliner concerts, Charity Week, Siblings Week… the Student Events Board (SEB) sponsors these and other events that make the College come alive with activity. Members of the SEB are responsible for the Siena social scene with the coordination of both big and small on-campus activities and events.

SECOND FLOOR

Multicultural Center

What do the Women of Calabash, American Line Dancing, a presentation called the Circle of Life and a forum on "Women May Still Be Silenced by Male Communication Patterns! What’s Up With That?" have in common? They are all programs and activities sponsored by the Multicultural Center. The Multicultural Center develops and promotes the enhancement of knowledge, appreciation, enjoyment and respect for all cultural groups. By promoting diversity, the Multicultural Center celebrates cultural groups and houses a multitude of resources for multicultural affairs.

The Vice President of Student Affairs sets policy with Student Senate and provides overall direction and management to student related activities and services. A member of the President’s Senior Staff, the Vice President of Student Affairs is the primary liaison with Trustees on student related matters.

Dean of Students Office

The Dean of Students oversees Residence Life and Judicial Affairs and is the campus "troubleshooter" for parents and students. The Dean "helps students to succeed" with such programs as the alcohol awareness program OCTAA (On Campus Talking About Alcohol), sexual harassment training and priority point programs, a Housing program used to reward and encourage students to be positive members of the Siena community and to encourage learning outside of the classroom.

The Director of Campus Programs and Student Activities promotes academic pursuit outside of the classroom. The Director is responsible for coordinating student leadership and promoting education outside the classroom. This position also serves as the staff liaison for student clubs and organizations

Housing

The ability to make Siena the students' home away from home starts with the Housing Office. The Director of Housing, along with the Residence Directors, Residence Counselors and Resident Assistants, manage the all-important student housing assignments, housing/food service contract issues and the ID system.

The Siena community and affiliated groups can meet in a variety of meeting rooms in the new Sarazen Student Union. With a variety of sizes available, accommodating any size group will be a breeze. The largest meeting room will also be used as a Judicial Hearing Room.
