An Emerging Core Strategy Preferred Options document was presented to the Luton & South Bedfordshire Joint Committee on 30 June 2008. This included the proposal for the urban extension of Luton eastwards into the Green Belt in North Hertfordshire; with 5,500 houses, associated infrastructure and a Luton easterly By-Pass from near Luton Airport to the A505 at Lilley, to be completed possibly by 2015/16.

What is Keep East of Luton Green (KEOLG)?

Keep East of Luton Green is a campaign group formed to fight the development of a countryside area of great beauty. This is land that forms part of the Green Belt to the East of Luton, adjacent to the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

So far, in November 2008, no decision has been finally made between a number of possible development area options (preferred options).
