Ubuntu Developers Can Now Tap RightScale to Deploy and Manage Cloud Applications

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – March 12, 2009RightScale®, Inc., the leader in cloud computing management, today announced full support for the popular Ubuntu distribution as part of the RightScale Cloud Management Platform. The Ubuntu software development community can now use RightScale to easily deploy and manage cloud applications on cloud infrastructures such as Amazon EC2 with complete control and portability.

"Ubuntu is the fastest-growing Linux distribution, and we anticipate that cloud computing will be an increasingly active area of development for the large Ubuntu community," said Thorsten von Eicken, RightScale CTO and founder. "RightScale's cloud management platform removes much of the complexity and risk from cloud computing, providing an easy way for Ubuntu developers to 'test the waters' of cloud computing or even deploy full production cloud applications for cost-effective, on-demand IT."

RightScale's Web-based cloud management platform lets any organization tap the enormous power of cloud computing for scalable, cost-effective IT infrastructure on demand, with complete control and portability. RightScale reduces the complexity of cloud deployments, enabling organizations to launch business-critical applications in a matter of hours, without the risk of lock-in.

The RightScale Platform now includes a full suite of cloud-ready ServerTemplates for Ubuntu, which are pre-built templates for common server configurations – such as scalable web and application arrays, database clusters, and grids – all running on Ubuntu. RightScale's ServerTemplates make it easy to deploy, manage and dynamically scale even complex, multi-cloud applications on the fully automated RightScale Platform.

"The RightScale cloud management platform gives Ubuntu developers an excellent cloud management solution, with automated management of the complete cloud deployment throughout the application's lifecycle," said Simon Wardley, support services manager at Canonical. "RightScale is a clear leader in the cloud space, and we look forward to working with them as we continue to embrace cloud computing as part of Ubuntu."
