Rose Lortz | NSA Class of 2005 | B.A., Liberal Arts and Culture

Teaching at a Classical Christian School
For four years Rose Lortz has been doing what she loves: introducing students to good books and good methods of academic inquiry. Rose is a teacher of junior high and high school level history, English, literature and music at a classical Christian school in Oregon. Her favorite part of the job is seeing her students become excited about the subjects and watching their understanding of them unfold. “It’s really neat to see kids realize that you don’t believe something just because the history book says it,” she notes. In that respect, Rose feels her profession benefits herself as well. “I enjoy learning myself as I prepare to teach them. There’s nothing like reading the Odyssey for the fifth time.” Rose graduated from NSA in 2005. She feels her time at NSA prepared her well for her current occupation and for the future. While she’s sure she’ll always be involved with teaching in some capacity, she’d also like to pursue writing. Meanwhile, in addition to her classes at the King’s Academy, Rose also teaches piano lessons and directs a girls’ church choir.
