Fettor Gideon Amabi of Amabi

                                                            Fettor Gideon Amabi of Amabi

This monarch has certain similiar characteristics as the Usif of Kupang (Usif means Lord). Also very sweet and soft and totally non-violent person. The people of Amabi was before a very powerful people living more to the East.

Originally, they come from Ermera district in present day East-Timor.When the Portugese colonial power defeated some principalities around  the middle of W.-Timor, who choose the side of Holland instead of their old allies, the people of Amabi fled to the area near Kupang.

There were later 2 areas founded:Amabi and the in the east there lying area of Amabi-OEfeto.The latter was actually a border area, which had to defend the border to the east, where the trouble always came from. Was bigger than Amabi-proper,but also more sparsely populated. Amabi proper was later absorbed by the expanding city of Kupang(provincial and national main cities always expand very rapidly in so-called 3rd world countries after WW II and especially after 1960’s).His residence is now in actual Amabi-OEfeto (the sub-dynasty of Amabi-OEfeto(in fact a branch of the Amabi dynasty)is now extinct).

There they still see him as their father and the local culture is also maintained. There he was easily elected in the first direct local district elections in 2004 for local parliament.

He studied in Java, where he met his Christian Javanese wife Dra. Hiskiana Mintarningsih.A beautiful and intellegent woman, who had many ideas for the better  well-being of the Amabi people. Both are devoted evangelical Christians, who of course gave the present Crown Prince of Amabi a Christian name: Raja Muda Israel Amabi.

Although having a soft character (in the good sense of the meaning), he dares to speak to the government, what he thinks could be done much better in local rule.
