Holy Saviour School opened its doors in September, 1917, to serve the Catholic population of Lower Chichester, Upper Chichester, and Marcus Hook. Its original location was on Chichester Ave. in a building constructed in 1914 to celebrate Mass when the Parish was in its infancy. When the Church was built at its present location, the old site was renovated into four classrooms to house the School.

The School remained on Chichester Ave. until 1952. With the growth of the surrounding areas, building a larger school became necessary. In 1952, the new Holy Saviour School opened at its current location on Ridge Rd. It originally consisted of eight classrooms and an auditorium, but two additions occurred before 1960, doubling the number of classrooms to a total of sixteen. Enrollment at Holy Saviour peaked at slightly over 900 students in the late 1960’s. Another addition occurred in 1998, when a computer lab and another classroom were added.

From September, 1917, through June, 1989, Holy Saviour School was staffed by the Sisters of St. Joseph. A year after the Sisters left, the convent was renovated for School purposes. The library and support staff were relocated there and the chapel became available for School use as well.

In 1971, St. John Fisher Parish in Boothwyn was founded from land that was once almost exclusively within Holy Saviour Parish’s boundaries. Holy Saviour School became the combined Holy Saviour-St. John Fisher School, although the name change didn’t occur until a few years later. Many students from Immaculate Conception Parish also enrolled at Holy Saviour-St. John Fisher when Immaculate Conception School closed its doors in 1974. When Resurrection School in Chester closed in 1993, Trainer Boro became a part of Holy Saviour Parish and those students also became eligible to attend Holy Saviour-St. John Fisher.
