ATHENS, Greece A Turkish F-16 fighter jet crashed into the Aegean Sea Tuesday after it was intercepted by Greek warplanes. One of its two pilots was rescued.
Greece said the plane went down in international waters after it was intercepted in Greek airspace by Greek Mirage 2000 jets near Chios island, six miles from Turkey.
Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesman Sermet Atacanli denied the fighter violated Greek airspace. "The jet was on a regular training flight in international airspace," he said.
