Today, Pirates from 15 countries have come together in Luxembourg for the foundation of the European Pirate Party (PPEU). This step prepares the jointly organized participation of Pirate Parties across Europe in the upcoming European elections in Mai 2014.

Gregory Engels, co-chairman of the Pirate Parties International: "The Pirate Party movement is unique in its international extent, having the unprecedented opportunity to address the real important trans-national political issues."

The Statutes and the Manifesto have been signed by the Pirate Parties of Luxembourg, Norway, France, Belgium, Greece, Catalonia, Cyprus, Russia, Italy, Switzerland, Finland, Sweden, Croatia, Poland and Germany and by the recently founded Young Pirates of Europe. Elected representatives from the European Parliament (Amelia Andersdotter), German regional Parliaments (Nico Kern, Andreas Augustin, Angelika Beer and Alexander Spieß) and Pirate Parties International (Gregory Engels) have addressed the assembled Pirates with greetings.

The European Pirate Party is preparing a big conference in March 2014 in Brussels to finalize the foundation process and to kick off the election campaign for the European Elections.
