Martial Art Northampton - History

The History

Great Grand Master Diep Truong Phat known as Chinese Sixth (literal translation, because he was the sixth child in the family) was the founder of the An Thai Clan. Born in 1896 in An Thai village Binh Dinh province. His parents came from Ming Xiang in China.

At the age of thirteen Great Grand Master Diep Truong Phat was sent to China to study both martial art and poetry. After ten years of intensive training, The Great Grand Master mastered Tiger and Dragon style and eighteen types of weaponry from many masters, including three-spoke spear, spear, butterfly sword, double knife etc. Leaving China, The Great Grand Master arrived in Hong Kong and learned Snake and Monkey styles from an old Master Hong Ha Diep, who in fact was completely blind. Whilst The Great Grand Master was training on a rooftop, the old Master - with his heightened sense of hearing - recognized the sound of strength and perfection that was displayed. From this The Great Grand Master achieved the flexibility of the martial art. At home in the An Thai village he refined both the strength and the flexibility to maximise the power of these styles.

At the beginning, The Great Grand Master refused to teach anyone outside the family, but after many requests from many students, The Great Grand Master agreed to pass on the powerful style which he had been training for the past fifteen years. In 1924, The Great Grand Master was 28 and that is the time when the An Thai Clan became famous with many fighters such as Ba Phung, Chin Ky, Pho Tuan Chan and Nam Tuong.
