Sister City Program

The Auburn Washington Sister Cities Association (AWSCA) is a community based organization providing opportunities for City of Auburn, Washington, residents to develop relationships with the peoples of the world through cultural exchanges, educational programs and community events.

Sister City Partnerships

*JAPAN:*	Auburn has a 40+ year Sister City relationship with the city of Tamba, Japan, which is shared with Kent, Washington. This group is sponsored by the Auburn Noon Lions Club and has a strong Youth Ambassador Program. *KOREA:*	In October 2011 Auburn signed a Friendship Exchange agreement with the city of Pyeongchang, Korea, who will be proud hosts of the 2018 Winter Olympics. Auburn hosted the first educational exchange of Pyeongchang 5th and 6th graders in Fall 2012 and plans are under way to develop business partnerships.
*ITALY:*	Auburn began developing an Italian Sister City relationship years ago and is now reestablishing ties with that country with the help of the Sons of Italy group. A Letter of Intent was signed with Mola di Bari, Italy, in 2012 and plans are under way to sign the formal Sister City agreement in Spring 2013.
*CHINA:*	A Letter of Intent was signed October 2011 to develop a Friendship Exchange with Guanghan, China, which is located in the Sichuan Province. An agreement to establish a friendly and cooperative relationship was signed in May 2012, and plans are under way to sign the formal Sister City agreement in Spring 2013.

Organizational Information
The Auburn WA Sister Cities Association is an independent, nonprofit organization under the direction of a Board of Directors with representation from the City of Auburn, Auburn Area Chamber of Commerce, Auburn Tourism Board, Auburn School District, Green River Community College and each established Sister City Committee. The Board meets no less than four times a year, including the Annual Meeting where the goals and projects for the year are discussed with the membership and the public along with other business as deemed necessary.
