Emergency Call Information! / 112
Anybody may get into trouble at any time and even abroad. Therefore, it is useful to keep in mind that, in case of emergency, the universal emergency phone number, 112 can be called throughout Europe. The universal emergency phone number can be dialled in all the 27 member states of the European Union, as well as in the countries not belonging to the EU, in order to reach the police, the ambulance or the fire brigade. The 112 emergency phone number can be called free of charge from any and all landlines and mobile phones without entering the PIN code, and even if the keyboard is locked. The only condition of calling it from a mobile phone is that the device needs to hold an activated SIM card. The recipients of the call speak several languages. In the territory of Hungary you can still reach the police by dialling 107, the ambulance by dialling 104 and the fire brigade by dialling 105. In case of water emergency 1817 can also be called (for the time being free of charge with every service provider) in addition to 112. The number of the moral support service is the free 116-123. In case of emergency try to provide precise information! People calling for help in serious, dangerous situations tend to be nervous and, quite understandably, are confused. Consequently, learn what the five things are (the five Ws) that in case of emergency you need to answer on the phone and that you need to pay special attention to: Where did it happen? What happened? How many people got injured or into danger? What is the nature of the injury or of the illness? The fifth very important thing is not to hang up the phone immediately, as the hotline operator may need further information, may have to ask further questions, or may provide advice until the arrival of the help. The day of the European Emergency Call is 11th February of every year.
