Built in 1928, Hertford's Historic "S" Swing Bridge is a photographer's dream, home to the town's "Turtle Log," and is said to have inspired the author as he penned the words to "Carolina Moon." Watch as the bridge tender opens it for crabbers, boaters, and pleasure crafts to glide through on the beautiful Perquimans River. The unique "S" shaped design is believed to be the only one of its kind in the nation still operational. Located within a stone's throw from the bridge is the Turtle Log, the town's unofficial mascot and emblem. Turtles sun themselves on the log each day and generations of children have learned how to count by counting the number of turtles on that log while traveling over the Causeway. Pictures indicate the log is more than 100 years old.
