Double champion Sam Hornish Jr will become the first driver to lap a contemporary Indy Racing League car outside of the USA when he tests at the Motegi oval in Japan next month.
The test is in preparation for the IRL's maiden race outside of its home continent, which is due to take place at the Twin Ring Motegi track next April.
Hornish Jr and his Panther Racing team will help determine the appropriate mandated wing packasge for the race.
"I'm glad we were chosen to do that," Hornish Jr said. "It will definitely prepare the team for getting the cars ready and packed.
"It's a way for me to see the track and for Andy Brown [Panther's engineer] to get some data and see how our car will react. We'll have a little bit of a head start on everybody."
The test is due to take place on November 7-9.
