Ronnie Cuber is a powerful original baritone saxophonist with an exceptional sound in the tradition of Leo Parker and Pepper Adams.
Ronnie has been making excellent records for 40 years. He was in The Marshall Brown's Newport Youth Band at the 1959 Newport Jazz Festival, as a young teenager. Shortly after, he was featured with Slide Hampton's record on a 7 minute solo. In 1962 he joined the Maynard Ferguson Band and toured with him for a few years. He was also 1/4 of the original George Benson Quartet with George and Lonnie Smith and can be heard as the exceptional voice on the "Cook Book" and "It's Uptown albums" and on many others with George and Lonnie Smith. Joined the Woody Herman and Eddie Palmieri bands in the late 60's and early 70's.
As a freelancer, he recorded hundreds of fine albums as a leader and as a sideman with Donald Fagen, King Curtis when it was the back up band for Aretha Franklin, Horace Silver, Charles Mingus, The Gadd Gand, Frank Zappa, Eric Clapton, Billy Joel and does arrangements for Dr. John and many other Grammy Award winning recordings. He served as an important member of the Saturday Night Live Band in the late 70's and 80's. Ronnie currently continues to tour with his own band, composing and arranging for the Mingus Big Band and others, giving master class' and as a guest soloist with big bands all over the world. He brings a very unique combination of experience, talent and creativity to audiences, musicians, students and jazz history.
