The Proceedings of the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia, established in 1841, is the longest running serial on natural history and the environment published in the Americas. Tens of thousand of species of animals and plants have been named in its pages. The Proceedings is now generally issued annually; all submitted papers are subject to peer-review. Current subject areas include biological systematics, taxonomy, evolution, biogeography, paleontology, ecology, and history of science.
