The Proceedings of the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia, established in 1841, is the longest running serial on natural history and the environment published in the Americas. Tens of thousand of species of animals and plants have been named in its pages. The Proceedings is now generally issued annually; all submitted papers are subject to peer-review. Current subject areas include biological systematics, taxonomy, evolution, biogeography, paleontology, ecology, and history of science.

The Academy of Natural Sciences, an international museum of natural history operating since 1812, undertakes research and public education that focus on the environment and its diverse species. The Academy’s scientific staff studies evolution, biodiversity and ecology, providing information critical to understanding the natural world. These efforts are supported by a collection of 17 million biological specimens and a library of 200,000 volumes.
