Eugene Lourie

Eugène Lourié was a French film director and screenwriter. He is most famous for writing and directing three major giant dinosaur films: 1953's The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms, 1959's The Giant Behemoth, and 1961's Gorgo.

Trivia

• Lourié was also assigned by The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms producer Jack Dietz to direct The Black Scorpion (1957) and met with Willis O'Brien and Pete Peterson for the first time during production; he would later work with the pair on the 1959 film The Giant Behemoth. However, he soon left the project after disputes with Dietz's producing partner Frank Melford and was replaced by Russian-born filmmaker Edward Ludwig.^[1]
