Gen Urobuchi (虚淵 玄 Urobuchi Gen) is a Japanese novelist, visual novel writer, and anime screenwriter. Urobuchi began his career writing visual novels in the early 2000s, but became most well-known for writing the acclaimed anime series Puella Magi Madoka Magica in 2011. Since then, Urobuchi has written for anime such as Psycho Pass and Fate/Zero and tokusatsu series such as Kamen Rider Gaim. Urobuchi's work is characterized by dark and nihilistic themes, prominent gore, and tragic plot twists which often involve the brutal deaths of main characters, earning him the nickname "Urobutcher" among fans.

Gen Urobuchi was born in 1972. He is a scenario writer / novelist who works for Nitroplus. He won “Best Scriptwriter” from the Tokyo Anime Award for his work on the TV anime PUELLA MAGI MADOKA MAGICA. He has written screenplays of various anime, including PSYCHO-PASS, GARGANTIA ON THE VERDUROUS PLANET (翠星のガルガンティア, Suisei no Garugantia, 2013) and EXPELLED FROM PARADISE (楽園追放 -Expelled From Paradise-, Rakuen Tsuihoo -Expelled From Paradise-, 2014). He also developed the story and wrote screenplays for the television series KAMEN RIDER GAIM (仮面ライダー鎧武(ガイム), Kamen Raidaa Gaimu, 2013-2014) and was script supervisor on the film KAMEN RIDER GAIM: GREAT SOCCER BATTLE! GOLDEN FRUITS CUP! (劇場版 仮面ライダー鎧武 サッカー大決戦!黄金の果実争奪杯!, Gekijooban Kamen Raidaa Gaimu Sakkaa Daisakusen! Kogane no Kajitsu Soodatsu-hai!, 2014).[1]
