ASR Help - TOWAIR Determination

The FCC does not require each antenna structure to be registered. The "Determine if Registration is Necessary" screen allows the user to enter and submit key information about their antenna structure in order to determine whether or not registration with the FCC is necessary. After completing the form and clicking on the "SUBMIT" button, the user then receives one of two reply messages: 
  • The antenna structure requires registration. A list of reasons is provided; or 
  • The antenna structure does not require registration. A list of reasons is provided.

  • NAD83 Coordinates
  • Measurements

NAD 83 Coordinates
Enter the exact geographic location of the structure for which you process a TOWAIR determination - entering both the latitude and longitude in degrees (e.g., 42º), minutes (e.g., 13'), and seconds (e.g., 10").  
  • Enter the antenna structure's Latitude location coordinates into the DD (degrees), MM (minutes), and SS.S (seconds) data fields.
  • Enter the antenna structure's Longitude location coordinates into the DD (degrees), MM (minutes), and SS.S (seconds) data fields.
  • Two drop-down menus contain the four cardinal directions and their "up", "down", "left", and "right" equivalents from a coordinate (example: "N(+)" and "W(-)")
  • Convert from NAD27  allows you to convert NAD27 (North American Datum 1927) coordinates to NAD83 (North American Datum 1983) coordinates.  If you need to convert your coordinates from NAD27, please click here.

Measurements

Enter the following measurements:

  • Overall Structure Height (AGL) - The overall height above ground (AGL) of the entire antenna structure to the highest point, including any appurtenances. Height is displayed in meters.
  • Support Structure Height (AGL) - The height above ground to the highest point of the supporting structure only (without appurtenances). Height is displayed in meters.
  • Site Elevation (AMSL) - The elevation of the site above mean sea level (AMSL). Height is displayed in meters.

NOTE:  The default measurement in the height data fields is meters.  To switch to measurement in feet, click on "English" in the drop-down box.

Structure Type
Choose the appropriate structure type from the drop-down list that contains the different types of antenna structures.

Available structure types are: 

  • B - Building
  • BANT - Building with an antenna
  • BMAST - Building with Mast
  • BPIPE - Building with Pipe
  • BPOLE - Building with Pole
  • BRIDG - Bridge
  • BTWR - Building with Tower
  • MAST - Mast
  • NNTANN* - Antenna Tower Array - 1st N = number of structures, 2nd N = position of this tower
  • NTOWER** - Multiple Structures (The N is the number of structures (e.g. 2TOWER, 3TANK)
  • PIPE - Any type of Pipe
  • POLE - Any type of Pole
  • RIG - Oil or other type of Rig
  • SIGN - Sign
  • SILO - Any type of Silo
  • STACK - Smoke Stack
  • TANK - Any type of Tank (Water, Gas, etc.)
  • TOWER - Free standing or Guyed Structure
  • TREE - When used as a support for an antenna
  • UPOLE - Utility Pole/Tower used to provide support for an antenna (Electric, Telephone, etc.)

*Valid Tower Arrays.  The first NN indicates the number of towers in an array.  The second NN indicates the position of that tower in the array (example: 3TA2 would identify the second tower in a three tower array; 14TA12 would identify the twelfth tower in a fourteen tower array.)

**Valid Multiple Structure.  The N indicates the number of structures where multiple antenna structures are present (example: 2TOWER, 3 TANK, 6BMAST, etc.)
