Carutti di Cantogno, Domenico, Baron (kä-rōt’ē dē kän-tōn’yō). An Italian historian and publicist; born in Cumiana, near Turin, Nov. 26, 1821; died in 1909. As a young man he took to romance-writing, but was speedily absorbed in politics and rose to great distinction. When he resumed the pen, it was to compile such solid works as ‘History of the Reign of Victor Amadeus II.’ (1856), and ‘History of the Reign of Charles Emanuel III.’ (1859), which are interesting and scholarly.
