Small Faces honoured

Commemorative plaque unveiled in London

04 Sept 07 - The Small Faces were honoured by Westminster City Council today.

A commemorative Green plaque was placed on the site of the band’s management offices in London’s Carnaby Street to honour their contribution to music.

Original Small Faces drummer Kenney Jones attended the unveiling ceremony and admitted the event was a bittersweet one:

“One of the sad things about today is that Steve Marriott, Ronnie Lane and Don Arden would have loved to be here and take part. It’s a bit of a sad day yet it’s a bit of a spiritual day. I only wish they were here to enjoy this moment with me.”

Despite the band’s acrimonious split from manager Don Arden and their first record label in the 1960s, Kenney feels the plaque’s location is appropriate:

“The campaign was headed by a lady called Val Weedon who worked in our management offices here with Don. 

“One great thing about Carnaby Street is there’s a common Mod theme that runs through every shop. It goes to show that the Mod look will never die, especially in Carnaby Street.”

The Small Faces are widely acknowledged as the 'ultimate Mod band' and pioneers of the 1990s Brit Pop movement.
