LIVE: Passengers board the first train at Cambridge North Station

The first passenger trains leave Cambridge North Station today.
The new station will ease congestion into Cambridge city centre and tickets to London can be bought in advance for as little as £7.
A journey by train between Cambridge and Cambridge North takes a mere four or five minutes, with the new station expected to benefit communities and villages to the north of the city.

First passenger at Cambridge North - 'It's out of this world'
Sally Hookway, a parish councilor for Manea, was the first passenger at Cambridge North.
“I’m going up to Norwich to see my last friend from school. This is the best thing that’s happened to Cambridge. It’s out of this world.. I’m so excited to be the first passenger here.”

Campaigners welcome Cambridge North
Railfuture East Anglian Branch Chairman Nick Dibben said: “This is great news for rail passengers as many people living in the north of Cambridge will have better access to the railway without the need to get caught up in traffic getting to the main station.
“A lot of different groups including local authorities and the rail industry have been involved in making this happen and they deserve our thanks for their efforts.
“The large cycle storage and regular buses along the busway and around Cambridge mean that people can leave their cars at home. Once the station has settled down we will carry out one of our station audits to see if improvements can be made.”
