D.O.A.'s Keithley visits Regina 'occupy' camp | CBC News

Punk musician Joey Keithley visited protesters at the Occupy Regina camp in the city's downtown Victoria Park, lending his voice to support their cause.

"If you're going to get social justice and financial fairness from people around the world, this is a great, great movement," Keithley said after playing a few acoustic numbers. "Like it could be a really big change in the world."

The 56-year-old father of three was in Regina to perform with D.O.A. at the University of Regina.

In addition to his music, Keithley has established a reputation for supporting peace movements and environmental causes.

"I know some of the people here," Keithley said of the Regina group. "I have solidarity with them because it's like,  this is the right thing to do."

He said he agrees with one of the key messages of the occupy protesters, relating to an economic imbalance.

"You know what? It's the 99 per cent versus the one per cent," he said. "It's about time the one per cent gave up some of what they got. They may not give up all that they got. That's not very likely. But they have to give up some of it and make it fairer for the rest of us."

While there are no firm numbers about how many people are in the Regina occupy camp, on Friday night there were about 30 tents set up in a northeast corner of the park.
