The Asgardians of Marvel Comics represent one of the most powerful societies within the 616 universe. Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby and based on the Norse gods of ancient myth, Marvel's Asgardians are famed warriors, sorcerers, and diplomats who instill order throughout the Nine Realms of Yggdrasil, the World Tree.

The average Asgardian possesses superhuman speed, strength, durability, stamina, longevity, and a healing factor that rivals Wolverine's. In addition, each Asgardian is inherently mystical due to possessing a small portion of the Odinforce. However, Asgard's champions are leagues more powerful than the average Asgardian.

10 Frigga Is A Powerful Diplomat

Frigga in Marvel's What If

Frigga, or Freya, is the wife of Odin and mother of characters such as Thor, Balder, Tyr, and Angela. Though her aging is more pronounced than many other Asgardians, she holds a position of power available to only a select group of Asgardians.

Frigga, along with Idunn and Gaea, formed the All-Mother, which is a triumvirate of goddesses dedicated to the rule of Asgard while overseeing the realms of the World Tree. Her shrewd diplomacy allowed Asgard to gain insight into Malekith's return, while her potent physical strength allowed her to challenge Odin while he used the Destroyer Armor.

9 Volstagg Is An Excellent Warrior

Volstagg Asgardian warrior - Marvel Comics

Volstagg the Voluminous is a member of the Asgardian adventuring group the Warriors Three, which is a trio of warriors who have been companions for thousands of years. Alongside his Fandral and Hogun, Volstagg has defended New York City against the hordes of Surtur, fought the alien Ego-Prime in Manhattan, and battled the Fenris Wolf.

Despite his blustering and buffoonish manner, Volstagg has shown himself to be a cut above the other members of his group. Volstagg has singlehandedly repelled an invasion of Frost Giants from Asgard, taken on the Hulk villains the U-Foes, and served as the representative of the Asgardian people. When he took the hammer of Ultimate Thor, he became strong enough to battle Thor, though he eventually relinquished this power.

8 Sif Can Slice Through Dimensions

Sif, the Goddess of the Hunt and the Harvest, has often been seen rushing into battle alongside Thor since the early Silver Age. Her battle prowess grants her position amongst the greatest warriors of Asgard and her mystic sword has the power to cut through dimensions as well as normal objects.

Sif also has several powers not possessed by normal Asgardians. Her innate ability to teleport through time and space at the speed of thought makes her immensely powerful, while her ability of chronokinesis (the ability to see past events) gives her a unique insight many other characters do not possess.

7 The Enchantress Is A Powerful Sorceress

Enchantress Marvel Comics - Asgardian sorcerer

Amora, the Enchantress, is one of Thor's most enduring villains. A sorceress who apprenticed to Karnilla the Norn Queen, the Enchantress was thrown out due to her capricious nature. However, since then, she has gleaned enough mystical power to rival Loki and Doctor Strange.

In her time menacing the 616, Amora's magic has allowed her to manipulate time, trade blows with Thor and the Hulk, hypnotize hundreds, and even reanimate all human corpses. Much of her power also lies in her seductive ability, which gives her the power to manipulate a person for a week with one kiss and indefinitely with more.

6 Heimdall Protects Asgard

Heimdall the All-Seeing is the Guardian of the Bifrost: the Rainbow Bridge that connects Asgard to the rest of the Nine Realms. He was personally given this post by Odin because of his great martial prowess and particular skill with bladed weapons. Since then, he's protected the Realm Eternal from all manner of threats.

Heimdall possesses enhanced senses that allow him to perceive anything approaching Asgard for hundreds of miles. He's also able to detect the life energy of any Asgardian across the Nine Realms. His sword, Hofund, is an Uru blade that can summon cosmic flame to stun even Thor.

5 Angela Is The Prodigal Daughter

Angela in Marvel Comics - strong asgardian

Though raised in the secret Tenth Realm of Heven, Angela is an Asgardian by birth and the daughter of Odin. Raised by the Angels, Angela was trained in the combative arts and became one of their fiercest warriors, becoming the Leader of the Hunt.

Later in life, Angela brought her prowess for combat into the rest of the universe, joining groups like the Guardians of the Galaxy and Blade's Strikeforce. With her blades Xiphos and Ichors, Angela has beaten the Unworthy Thor, fought Bor's undead Valkyries of Bor, and decapitated the leader of the Monsters of Badoon.

4 Cul Is A Conqueror

Cul Borson as The Serpent during Fear Itself

Cul Borson was the forgotten brother of Odin, Vili, and Ve. After their father, Bor, passed away, Cul claimed the kingship of Asgard for his own, using his power in that time to spread terror throughout the World Tree. Later, he returned to conquer the modern-day Marvel Universe, though he was ultimately defeated.

As the son of Bor, Cul possesses enough physical strength to fend off multiple Avengers, including Thor. As the God of Fear, he's able to feed on the fears of the living populace to make himself younger and stronger. Cul also created seven mystical hammers that brainwashed and empowered several powerful beings such as the Hulk, the Thing, and the Juggernaut.

3 Bor Is One Of The Universe's First Beings

Bor Catches Mjolnir

Bor is one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe, being one of the prime creators of the 616 with the Galactus Seed. He holds cosmic power to rival the Odin Force, can control the elements, and is a talented hand-to-hand combatant.

After his resurrection at the hands of Loki, Bor was brainwashed and battled Thor in the streets of New York. He easily brushed off an attack from the Dark Avengers and fought Thor to a near-standstill. He's also capable of wielding Mjolnir, though he found the use of such a weapon beneath him.

2 Odin Is The All-Father

The All-Father, much like his father, is respected and feared throughout the Universe. In addition to ruling Asgard for eons, Odin formed the Stone Age Avengers, defeated his brother Cul, and banished Thor to Earth in the form of the medical student Don Blake.

Odin's immense power is augmented by the Odinsleep, a mystical rest he takes that restores and raises his power levels. He has taken out the Silver Surfer in one blast and beaten Annihilus in single combat. As the God of Wisdom and Lord of Asgard, Odin possesses the Odinforce, an immense well of power that he's used for things like teleporting the entire human race into another dimension and waging battles across multiple planes of existence.

1 Thor Is The True Mightiest Avenger

How Thor's Most Cowardly Ally Finally Proved His Heroism

Thor, the God of Thunder and the Prince of Asgard, is the most powerful Asgardian in the Marvel Universe. In his sixty-odd years of publication, Thor has bested foes like Hulk, Namor, the Silver Surfer, Bor, Gladiator, and the Midgard Serpent in combat, as well as countless smaller enemies. He's remained a devout protector of both Midgard and Asgard for many centuries.

Thor controls the storms of the galaxy, can fly at speeds up to Mach 32, and has destroyed planets as a side-effect of the strength of his blows. When in possession of the Odinforce, Thor has shown himself capable of teleporting the entire city of New York and containing a nuclear explosion. Thor's cosmic heritage due to both Odin and the Phoenix Force makes him one of the most powerful beings in the galaxy.
