Infections with highly pathogenic avian influenza A(H5N1) viruses in mammals have been reported.
A multi-state outbreak of HPAI A(H5N1) bird flu in dairy cows was first reported on March 25, 2024.
January 14, 2024, USDA APHIS reported the first H5N1 detection in wild birds in the US since 2016.
In February 2022, USDA’s APHIS announced an HPAI A(H5N1) virus outbreak in commercial poultry.
