Shock stats show local area is struggling compared to rest of South Lanarkshire

The bleak findings were revealed in papers outlining an upcoming initiative aimed at providing help to underprivileged children

Rutherglen and Cambuslang are struggling the most in all of South Lanarkshire.

That’s the finding of a shock new council report that has laid bare the difficulties being faced throughout the area this year.

The paper states that Rutherglen and Cambuslang have:

The highest rate of alcohol and/or drug admissions in the local authority area;

 More unemployment and people on long- term sick leave/disabled than elsewhere;

 More single parent households than the council average (nine per cent against an average of 7.8 per cent);

 More children under 20 living in low income families;

 A higher level of social work referrals than anywhere else (32.2 per cent compared to the council average of 29.4 per cent);
